100F degrees is hot!
It’s going to be one of those days where Portland feels a lot like the Southwest as we edge toward more record breaking temperatures.
It seems like we’ve been getting extended 100F degree heat spells for the last 3-4 years. Riding around in full motorcycle gear in stop and go traffic with an air cooled V-Twin dumping out heat makes it even more noticeable. No complaints because the weird winter weather is just around the corner.
The good news? Fruit is looking good! Wineries and cellar masters are talking about the abundance of “heat units” exceeding 1,800 and grape growers will have an early harvest in both the Rogue and Willamette valley.
How are you coping with the heat?
we have had weird weather as well. i am learning to stay covered in the heat. it prevents sunburn and overheating. if all else fails, and i know that i am blessed to have the option, but i ride to the mountains or coast. woohoo… any change of scenery and temps is good.
I live in Central Florida and if the thunderstorms off the gulf arent raging then the sun is. Very rarely do I ever see riders in full gear unless its wet weather gear. I dont have room to pack it on my bike so I either hide out under an overpass, get soaked or stay home…. all of which suck by the way. Down here we wear jeans, boots and T-shirts because the heat and humidity is just brutal. Not only is this the sunshine state but the road rash state because I dont see anyone in protective gear between April and October and who can blame them. I dont even own a leather riding jacket or chaps because the weather really doesnt allow for it except a few weeks out of the year, two days here and two days there in January and February. I ride in between cold fronts with jeans and a sweatshirt and thats about it. Such is life in sunny Florida….. our protective gear is sunscreen.
